• The need for clearance
• Remember it is the squirrel's weight that triggers the closing mechanism. If a squirrel can reach over from a nearby foothold and avoid placing its weight on the feeder, it will be able to access the seed. Allow for at least 16 inches or 40 cm of clearance around the feeder. This will force the squirrel to climb onto the feeder triggering the closing mechanism.
• Negative grip tube
• The negative grip tube prevents squirrels from grabbing the wire hanger with their hind legs, hanging down alongside the feeder and defeating the closing mechanism.
• Seed level indicator
• The bottom of the yellow Center Post Cap marks the maximum seed level. Filling past this mark will impede the shroud from closing. Do not fill past this mark.

How it Works


Openings in the wire shroud align with seed ports and provide birds access to the seed.


When a squirrel climbs onto the feeder, its weight automatically forces the shroud down, closing access to the seed ports. All squirrels and many large birds are foiled, but not harmed in any way.

Transparent seed tubes are like greenhouses, they trap solar energy. Traditional seed tube cover designs block the escape of heated air.

The patented Seed Tube Ventilation System in Squirrel Buster Finch, permits humidity and warm air to escape through vents at the top of the feeder.

The escaping air is replaced by fresh air entering through the seed ports.

The seed remains fresher and attracts more birds.
